Pneumatophores and crab burrows increase CO2 and CH4 emission from sediments in two Brazilian fringe mangrove forests

We assessed the release of greenhouse gases (CO 2 and CH 4 ) from air-exposed sediments dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) inundated in Brazilian mangrove forests. Our focus was on impact biogenic structures, i.e. pneumatophores crab burrows, gas emissions. Emission CO bare sediment (111-156 57-148 mmol m -2 d -1 darkness light, respectively) comparable to DIC (122-158 52-62 , respectively). Pneumatophores burrows increased dark emission during air exposure by 113-123 49-91%, respectively. (0.22-0.25 92-137 288-607%, respectively, burrows.
